Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What kind of nursery is Kwekerij Bulk?
Kwekerij Bulk has specialised in unusual and less common trees and shrubs since the mid-1950s. We are known for our broad and carefully selected range, including many distinctive and rare species.
Who runs the nursery?
In 2000, Mark Bulk took over the business from his father. Since 2013, he has run the nursery together with Anne Bulk-Brylla. Together, they share a strong passion for plants, nature and traditional horticultural craftsmanship.
How are your plants grown?
Our plants are grown using natural and traditional methods, without pesticides or artificial fertilisers. The diversity of our plant range contributes to a natural balance, meaning that diseases and pests are rarely a problem.
Do you grow your plants according to organic principles?
Yes. We grow our plants according to environmentally responsible principles, without pesticides or artificial fertilisers and using responsibly produced growing media.
Are you organically certified?
No, we are not currently certified. In practice, our growing methods meet the relevant requirements, but the administrative burden involved in certification is too great for us. Our way of working is based on our own convictions and principles rather than on a certification label.
Are your plants grown in containers or in the ground?
A large proportion of our plants are field-grown, with compost added annually and green manure crops used in rotation. Our container-grown plants are grown in organic and/or peat-free growing media.
Do you use peat in your growing media?
No. We do not use extracted peat and consciously choose alternative, peat-free growing media. Finding suitable alternatives and achieving a good composition with the right pH and EC values has required a great deal of time and attention. In the meantime, it seems that we have found a good and reliable formulation.
Only we have not yet found a suitable alternative for our propagation medium. We will keep looking for one!
Who do you supply?
We mainly supply wholesale customers, specialist garden centres, plant traders, botanical gardens, arboreta and landscapers throughout Europe. Private customers are also welcome to order from us.
Can I visit the nursery?
Yes, you are welcome to visit, walk around and find inspiration. Please note, however, that we do not operate a Cash & Carry facility and work exclusively on a pre-order basis.

You can park on our premises or along the road in the immediate vicinity.
Can I get plant advice from Kwekerij Bulk?
We do not provide individual plant advice as part of our plant sales. For planting advice and garden design, you can contact Anne Bulk-Brylla Garden Design & Plant Advice.
Is an enquiry submitted through the website binding?
No, an enquiry is entirely non-binding. We will send you a quotation. The order only becomes binding once you have approved the quotation, in whole or in part, in writing.
When can I receive or collect my order?
After written approval, we will agree a delivery or collection date with you.
Do you also deliver orders?
Yes. If you do not collect your order yourself, we can arrange delivery.
How are orders shipped?
Orders are shipped by courier or freight service on a pallet, pallet box or CC trolley.
Can I have a smaller quantity of plants sent as a parcel?
Yes, through our colleagues at Plantentuin Esveld. In that case, Esveld's terms and prices apply.
What does the tick on the availability list mean?
Plants that we have grown ourselves using responsible methods and exclusively natural products are marked with a tick. Plants purchased from other growers are not necessarily organically grown or free from pesticides and therefore do not receive a tick.
Why do you buy plants from other growers?
To complete our range. Some fellow growers produce high-quality or rare plants that we are unable to grow ourselves. These plants complement our collection, even though they do not always follow our own approach to sustainable growing.
How do plant reservations and call-offs work?
We kindly ask you to call off reserved plants within 30 days at the latest.
Reservations must be collected or called off before 1 December (exceptions only by prior agreement).
After 1 December, any reservations that have not been called off will expire and the plants will be added to the availability list again.
Reservations made after 1 December must be called off before 30 April.
After 30 April, these reservations will also expire and the plants will become available on the availability list again.
Where can I find your terms and conditions of trade?
You can find our terms and conditions of trade via Terms & Conditions on our website.
