Mahonia ‘BBM9’, introduced under the name JungleWhisper, is a beautiful evergreen shrub with stunning flowers and an exceptionally long season of ornamental interest.
The purple-red flower buds open to reveal orange flowers with a yellow centre. The young shoots emerge in dark red to purple shades, creating a striking contrast with the powdery, dark green foliage.
Thanks to its combination of evergreen foliage, structure, striking young growth and distinctive flowering, JungleWhisper offers a very long season of ornamental interest. The plant is suitable for both private gardens and public green spaces and professional planting projects.
JungleWhisper has a relatively narrow, upright growth habit and reaches a height of approximately 150 cm after 10 years. It is hardy and healthy.
The cultivar was selected and developed by Mark Bulk and Anne Bulk-Brylla of BB Botanics. Plant breeders’ rights have been applied for Mahonia ‘BBM9’. Huisman Boomkwekerij B.V. will bring the plant to market from autumn 2026.
